Groundbreaking ESG Calculator Launched for E-Waste Industry

Environmental Benefits Calculator for Electronics Recyclers and Refurbishers

e-Stewards, a leading electronics recycling certification program, announced a strategic partnership with London-based Bloom ESG today to introduce a revolutionary environmental benefits calculator.. This tool addresses a long-standing gap in the industry by providing a standardized, verifiable method to quantify the environmental benefits of electronics recycling and refurbishment.

Revolutionizing Environmental Impact Measurement

The electronics recycling sector has historically lacked reliable tools to measure its environmental contributions, particularly regarding carbon avoidance achieved through reuse and recycling activities. Large corporations seeking to incorporate accurate emissions data into their sustainability strategies have faced significant challenges due to this gap.

The new Bloom + e-Stewards ITAD Environmental Benefits Calculator changes this landscape by offering an ISO-approved, independently verified methodology that has been developed with direct input from leading e-waste processors and validated by a globally recognized audit firm.

“Until now, our industry has understood the positive environmental benefit of ethical circularity, but quantifying these benefits has been a challenge,” explains Daniel Puckett, e-Stewards Business Director. “We are excited to launch this ESG-focused partnership with Bloom and introduce a tool that sets a new standard for environmental benefit measurement.”

Meeting Industry Needs

The calculator addresses the growing demand for reliable ESG reporting in the electronics recycling industry. It enables companies to measure not only Scope 1-3 emissions but also the crucial Scope 4 – the carbon avoidance achieved through reuse and recycling activities.

Sebastian Foot, CEO of Bloom ESG, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are delighted to partner with e-Stewards, an organization known for its integrity and leadership in electronics recycling and reuse. Their endorsement and adoption of our platform will help bring best-practice impact reporting to a highly engaged audience of industry leaders.”

Industry Leaders Embrace the Calculator

Several industry leaders have already expressed strong support for this new tool:

Bob Houghton, CEO of Sage Sustainable Electronics, noted: “Large corporations rely on our reporting to quantify the benefits of responsible recycling and refurbishment. e-Stewards endorsement of Bloom ESG methodology validates the environmental impact that is so important to our customers.”

Todd Zegers, CEO of CXtec, shared his excitement: “Finally, our industry will have the missing link to individually show our worth to our customers and the world in terms of avoided emissions — the elusive Scope 4. We are in with both feet!”

Curt Greeno, president of Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations, highlighted their early adoption: “Dynamic is proud to have partnered with Bloom in pioneering this transformative Scope 4 avoided-emissions calculator. For nearly two years, our customers have leveraged this innovation to achieve their sustainability goals.”

Future Developments

While the current version of the calculator focuses on avoided carbon emissions, future iterations will expand to include additional environmental ESG metrics such as water usage, toxic material consumption, and overall toxicity footprint.

The Bloom + e-Stewards calculator is available to all electronics recyclers and refurbishers—including non-e-Stewards-certified companies—with special discounted rates for the first 10 early adopters.
